National Board

ABSA administers examinations for the National Board on the first Wednesday of March, June, September and December at ABSA’s Edmonton office.

Examination candidates may choose to apply to ABSA to write an examination at ABSA’s office, or they may choose to apply directly to the National Board. The National Board has partnered with Prometric to administer National Board commission and endorsement exams via their on-demand computer-based platform, with locations in over 180 countries around the world. Registration for writing examinations at a Prometric site is completed through the National Board's Business Center. For more information, please visit the National Board’s Education Center/Exam Registration page.

The National Board grades the examinations and notifies candidates of the results regardless of where the examination was taken.

The National Board Inservice Commission examination is one of the third party requirements for the Alberta In-Service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certification Program.  The National Board New Construction Commission examination, as it is specifically for new construction and not for inservice inspection of equipment, is not acceptable for the Alberta In-Service Inspector Certifications.

ABSA will recognize Inservice Commission examination results issued by the National Board regardless of where the examination is taken.

Detailed information about the National Board Commissioned Inspector Program, the certification process and the Body of Knowledge (NB-331-I Inservice Inspectors or NB-331-NC New Construction/Authorized Inspectors) is available on the National Board web site.
