Submission Requirements for Fitting National Registration

A fitting manufacturer may choose to register a fitting design in provinces or territories in addition to Alberta. The Alberta Boilers Safety Association (ABSA) offers a one-window service to fitting manufacturers wishing to register their designs in multiple Canadian provinces and territories. The manufacturer makes one submission and deals with one agency. The following describes the process and documents required for ABSA to apply for a fitting design registration in other provinces and territories on your behalf.

Some jurisdictions will exempt entire fitting categories from registration. The submitter should be informed of registration requirements for other jurisdictions prior to submitting to ABSA. It is the submitter’s responsibility to be informed and contact jurisdictions that may exempt categories of fitting registration. The following links are examples of jurisdictions that may exempt fittings from registration.

We prefer electronic submissions for National Registrations. Please see Electronic Submissions for more details.

  • If submitting electronically, then the quantity of any particular required document to be submitted is reduced to one (1) rather than multiple copies of a document.

(1) Alberta Registration

(1) Completed Design Registration Application Form AB-31. On this application check all jurisdictions for National Registration or indicate which additional jurisdictions you require for registration.

(1) Original and completed and notarized Statutory Declaration Form (AB-41). British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and Ontario all accept the AB-41. (AB-351 only accepted in Alberta)

(1) Universal Statutory Declaration Form - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland, Yukon, NWT, and Nunavut are covered under one jurisdictional review and they are processed by ACI Central Inc. Email national@absa.ca for the form.

(1) Quebec Statutory Declaration Form – Email national@absa.ca for the form.

(1) Manufacturer’s QC Certificate and/or ISO:9001 certificate.

(1) Copy of the design data on the fittings, (i.e., the catalogs and/or drawings)

Process step 1

  • Apply for and obtain an Alberta fitting registration. Once your application has been reviewed and accepted for registration in Alberta, you will be invoiced and your ABSA stamped set of documents will be returned to you.

Process step 2

  • ABSA will apply for and submit your documents to the selected jurisdictions as specified on the AB-31 form for their review.

Process step 3

  • Once all the registrations for the other jurisdictions are received, they will be forwarded to the submitter and submitter will then be invoiced.

Applicable Fees

  • ABSA will pay the applicable registration fees to the other jurisdictions on your behalf. Once the National Registration is complete, ABSA will invoice the submitter for the other jurisdiction registration fees, plus an ABSA one time administration fee of $645.00, despite how many jurisdictions the submitter applies for.
  • GST will be charged where applicable.

ABSA can not confirm the registration and review processes fees in advance because they vary by jurisdiction.

ABSA does not estimate timelines of other jurisdictions.

Where possible, ABSA will answer any questions that may arise from other jurisdictions relating to your application. If we are unable to provide the answer, ABSA will then contact the submitter directly for a response.
