Third Party Examinations

ABSA, the pressure equipment safety authority, is committed to helping individuals and industry meet their inspection needs in boiler and pressure vessel safety. ABSA works with the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NB) and the American Petroleum Institute (API) by administering examinations for these organizations. 

The National Board Inservice Commission examination is accepted as meeting one of the requirements for the Alberta In-Service Pressure Equipment Inspector Certification Program. 

The API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector examination is also accepted as meeting one of the requirements for the Alberta In-Service Pressure Vessel Inspector Certificate of Competency.

Please note that there is no requirement to hold or maintain either National Board or API certification in order to hold an Alberta In-Service Inspector certification.  Successful completion of the NB Inservice Commission examination or the API 510 Inspector examination within 5 years of applying for the Alberta certification is accepted.
