Welding, Brazing, and other Joining Procedure Registration
Regulatory Requirements
The Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation (AR 49/2006), Section 27(1)(b) and 27(2)(b),
require all welding, brazing and other joining procedures that may be used for
the fabrication of pressure equipment that is under the Safety Codes Act and
Regulations to be registered with ABSA.
CSA B51 Clause 4.4.1 requires all welding and brazing procedures that may be used
for pressure equipment that is under the Safety Codes Act and Regulations to
be registered with ABSA.
Welding or brazing procedures shall be in compliance with ASME Section IX per Sections
27(1)(a) of the Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation.
Other joining procedures must comply with the requirements of the applicable code
of construction per section 27(2)(a) of the Pressure Equipment Safety Regulation.
Submission Requirements
A registration submission shall include a completed Design Registration Application,
Form AB-31, and
A) Welding or Brazing Procedure ( 2 copies) which includes:

Welding or Brazing Procedure Specification (WPS or BPS)
-
Supporting Procedure Qualification Record(s) (PQR)
-
Laboratory Report(s) (if applicable, i.e. if the testing was done by an outside laboratory)
or
B) Other joining procedure specification and supporting procedure qualification record(s)
in compliance with the code of construction.
